Facebook sums up 2014 in its annual Year in Review

The reflections keep flowing as Facebook has published its 2014 Year in Review. In it, the social network takes a moment to remember the challenges and triumphs of 2014 and celebrate the moments that connected us all.

From the World Cup and the Ebola outbreak to the Sochi Olympics in Russia and the untimely passing of Robin Williams, this year has been packed full of events – both good and bad – that have shaped the world as a whole.

The World Cup, for example, drove more conversation than any other event in Facebook history. Elsewhere, people shared more than 17 million Ice Bucket Challenge videos on the site to raise awareness for the neurodegenerative disease ALS.

Facebook has compiled a list of the top 10 topics in the US which are as follows:

Samsung announces 5.5-inch, full-metal Galaxy A7

Samsung may have recently killed off the Galaxy Alpha smartphone, but that doesn’t mean it’s giving up on devices with a premium metallic build. After replacing it with the similar, but cheaper Galaxy A5 and A3, the company is now following up with a bigger and more capable variant in the Galaxy A7.

The device retains the full aluminum, unibody construction of its siblings but packs more computing power thanks to a Snapdragon 64-bit octa-core SoC, which itself consists of two separate quad core processors, clocked at 1.8GHz and 1.3GHz, or 1.5GHz and 1GHz for the dual SIM version.

Hyundai’s Android Wear app lets you remotely control your car

Hyundai announced in a press release that it’s releasing a new Android Wear version of its Blue Link app. The integration between the two will let drivers remotely control their cars directly from their smartwatches. Pretty cool, huh?

In just a few taps or a voice command, Hyundai car owners will be able to find the car, and lock or unlock the doors. You can even activate the headlights, honk the horn or call for roadside assistance if you’ve broken down.

Any Hyundai vehicles fitted with the Blue Link connectivity technology will be compatible with the app. These include the Sonata (2012 models and up) as well as the 2015 Genesis, Sonata and Azera.

The company says in the press release: “The app is easy to use. The wearer simply taps an icon or uses voice commands to execute remote functions. The Blue Link smartwatch app allows Hyundai owners to remote start, lock and unlock doors as well as find their car in a crowded parking lot. Pushing the microphone icon on the watch activates the voice function, where the driver can execute commands such as “Start my car,” “Lock my car” or “Find my car.””

The Blue Link app must be linked to an Android phone via Bluetooth. As long as you have a data connection, there’s no range limit so it can be used anywhere in the US.

The Google Play Store will offer the Blue Link app as a free download sometime during the first quarter of 2015.

Hyundai will debut the app at CES 2015 next week. T3 will be on hand in Las Vegas to report all the latest news.
